Is your shampoo ruining your hair?

Do you know whats in your drug store shampoo?

Despite the pretty packages and promises of softer hair, some shampoos may be damaging your hair and making the colour fade quickly. Angie understands the ease and cost appeal of drug store shampoos, we just want to share and educate about the common ingredients of your drug store shampoo. It is important to remember that your hair is UNIQUE and everyone’s hair responds to treatments differently!

  • SODIUM LAURYL SULFATE

Sulfates are found in most shampoos, the chemical foaming agents to turn shampoo into a foam when mixed with water. Sodium laurel sulphates strip away your hair’s natural oils which can lead to split ends, breakage and colour fade.

  • SILICONES

Siliciones are synthetic polymers which retain moisture by forming a waterproof coating around the hair cuticle. This can only be good, right? For heat protection, moisture and managing frizz, yes. However, these silicons can weigh your hair down and mask the true condition...

  • SODIUM CHLORIDE

Or as you may know it, salt. Used as a thickener in many shampoos, sodium chloride can lead to an itchy scalp or even hair loss!

  • POLYETHYLENE GLYCOL

Also known as PEGs, these petrochemicals are found in a range of cosmetics from makeup to hair care for emollients and emulsifiers. PEGs will affect the penetration level and porosity of your hair- this will change how your hair will take colour at your next appointment (& how long your tint or toner lasts!)

  • MINERAL OIL

Also known as baby oil, mineral oil should make hair feel soft and silky. When in fact, it is a petrochemical derived from the same oil we use to fuel our cars.

  • PARABENS

Such as methylparaben or propylparaben, these chemicals can prolong the shelf life of your drug store shampoo. Parabens may irritate your skin or even affect your hormonal balance!

  • WATER

Often, if your new drug store shampoo has the same ingredients as a salon recommended product, it will be watered down

Speak to Angie at your next appointment about your hair concerns and she can recommend a professional shampoo. Give your hair the love it deserves! Available in the salon (with no delivery costs or waiting time!), we have…
